GUJRANWALA, July 5: Transporters of Naushera Virkan, Tetley Maraliwala and Sheikhupura continued their strike on the fourth consecutive day on Friday against the levy of toll.
Transporters said the Naushera Virkan and Gujranwala Saddar tehsil councils had imposed fee at three places at Naushera Virkan, Tetley-Sheikhupura Road and Khiali Adda. They accused the contractor and his men of overcharging and humiliating the bus crew.
They said the Naushera Virkan tehsil council had fixed Rs7 per vehicle per trip and the Gujranwala Saddar tehsil council Rs5. But the contractor and his men were charging Rs15 and Rs10, respectively.
They said the Gujranwala tehsil city had imposed a parking fee of Rs25 per vehicle per day but Naushera Virkan and Saddar tehsil councils had fixed it for per trip which was unjustified.
They pledged that their strike would continue till the acceptance of their demand.
DACOITY BID: Residents of Kamoki foiled a dacoity bid and caught two fleeing dacoits here on Friday.
Three dacoits forced their entry into the house of Shoaib Ansari in Bilal Park and held hostage the inmates. They collected Rs15,000 in cash, jewellery and valuables.
In the meantime, a daughter of the house owner who was on the roof raised an alarm. The area people surrounded the house but the outlaws opened fire on them which was returned. Following the crossfire, two of the outlaws were overpowered by the people. They were identified as Munir and Ismail.
Their third accomplice, Babar, managed to escape.
STRANGLED: A father of two was strangled allegedly by his family members over a money dispute in Jandiala Baghwala on Friday.
Najaf Riaz demanded some money from his father, Riaz, to repair his wagon but he refused. Following a quarrel over the issue, his father, brother Bilal and brother-in-law Tauqir strangled him and escaped.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
COPS SUMMONED: The anti-terrorism court No. 2, Gujranwala, has summoned 11 police officials, including two assistant sub-inspectors, for July 8 on a complaint in a murder case.
A woman filed a complaint before the court that police officials of Qila Kalarwala, Narowal, had killed her son, Ghulam Murtaza, in a fake encounter.
The judge ordered the policemen, including two ASIs Ashraf and Shaukat, to appear before the court.
