TOBA TEK SINGH, July 5: The PPP observed a black day on Friday against the imposition of martial law on July 5, 1977, by late Gen Ziaul Haq.
Speaking at a meeting, party’s office bearers said present rulers were planning to rig the forthcoming general elections to get succeeded their favourite candidates and parties.
They condemned the government for not allowing PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and PML chief Mian Nawaz Sharif to take part in the country’s politics.
TRIBUTES: Office bearers of different NGOs have paid tributes to late former federal labour minister and Qaumi Jamhoori Party chief Omer Asghar Khan in a reference organized by NGO Anjuman Ittehad Millat.
The reference was presided over by Mrs Azra Roohi here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, All Pakistan Federation of Trade Union president Abdul Majeed Salik said that late Omer had struggled for the rights of toiling masses throughout his brief political career.
Mushtaq Kashfi said Omer was founder of the local government devolution plan due to which a large number of women and minority people were representing their communities in district, tehsil and union councils.
Sadaqat Sardar, Shazia Barkat, Ijaz Ahmad and many others also spoke on the occasion.
SHOT DEAD: Four unidentified persons on Saturday shot dead a criminal involved in a number of murder cases near Gogra Saddar police station.
Mahmood Ahmad Kahloon alias Mooda of Chak 425-JB, Wahla, was on his way to a town road when motorcyclists came there and fired at him. He sustained serious wounds and died on the way to the local DHQ Hospital.
He was also involved in a known case in which some criminals had stopped Chenab Express some 10 years ago and got released a murder case accused, Ashiq Gujjar, from police custody near Janiwala railway station.
He had also an enmity with criminals led by proclaimed offender Pervaiz alias Paija, who was killed a year ago in police encounter presumably on the information provided by him. It is suspected that PO’s accomplices might have killed Mooda in revenge.
Gojra police chased the killers, but could not arrest them till the filing of this report.
