PESHAWAR, July 5: The provincial president of Pakistan People’s Party, Khwaja Mohammad Khan Hoti, has served a legal notice on former NWFP chief minister and chief of PPP (Sherpao), Aftab Sherpao, asking him to refrain from using the name and flag of PPP.

The notice was issued by a senior advocate of the high court, Abdul Rauf Rohaila, which states that Mr Sherpao’s membership has been terminated due to violation of party discipline and was duly approved by the central executive committee.

It is further stated that the PPP had been registered as a political party under the Political Parties Act, 1976, and was recognized by the Government of Pakistan through Election Commission of Pakistan.

“The PPP was founded by late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and its flag was also launched soon after the establishment of the party,” the notice said.

It added that the claim of Mr Sherpao that “he is head of PPP is uncalled for.”

“If he desires to continue his politics he may launch his own party and independent flag of no similarity whatsoever,” the notice says.

It asks Mr Sherpao to immediately stop using the PPP name and its flag or be prepared for an appropriate legal action.
