KARACHI, July 4: The City government at a meeting on Thursday decided to turn the Gutter Baghicha into a main park of the city.
The decision was made in pursuance of a directives by Sindh Governor Muhammedmian Soomro that parks be set up in low-income areas of the city to provide healthy environment to residents of highly-populated areas and kutchi abadis.
The meeting, presided over by DCO Shafiq-ur-Rehman Paracha, was told that the park land of around 1,000 acres had been encroached by factories and kutchi abadis.
The executive district officer (Revenue) was directed to conduct a survey of the park and preserve its unencroached land.
The meeting was told that with various illegal installations the park had been turned into a desert and the roads were in a very bad shape. The children of a public school at a corner of the park also faced serious problems.
The DCO ordered that the situation be improved with the cooperation of elected representatives and that the road passing by the school be constructed forthwith.
The meeting further decided that grass and trees would be planted in the Baghicha immediately and a nursery by the City Government’s forest department would be developed there.
The meeting also decided to make special arrangements for sports and recreation for the children.
The meeting was attended among others by the Nazim of SITE Town, the EDO for Works, Brig Zaheer Qadri and EDO for Revenue Javed Hanif.—APP
