Profitable day for backers of favourites
LAHORE, July 3: Favourite backers went home happy when fancied horses swept the six-event card on the opening day of the Lahore Racing season 2002-2003 during the gymkhana races at the Racecourse Wednesday.
The punters started the day on a successful note when 3 to 2 favourite bay mare Super Moon Light registered an easy victory in the opener. This was followed by even-money favourites Golden Voice, Abr-e-Sehar and Super Time, who romped home in the second, third and fourth events.
The 20 to 100 favourite chestnut gelding Time Is Gold won the fifth and supporting event, providing an arm-chair ride to jockey Kamran outpaced Malook Star by five lengths comfortably. Russian Pet and Cherry’s Own completed the frame among nine runners.
Favourite bay colt Little Master captured the feature and the last event of the day in a run away style finally finishing three lengths ahead of Abr-e-Bahar. Lucky Lass and Popeye well finished third and fourth. In all, ten ran for this event. All races were contested over 800 metres.
