KHAIRPUR, July 3: A large number of residents of Hingorja, Sobhodero Taluka, staged a demonstration and observed a complete strike against the Hesco on Wednesday.
A team of the Hesco, Ranipur division, while checking meters tried to disconnect the electricity of a clinic. Some of the residents of the area offered resistance saying that there was no genuine reason for disconnecting the power.
Soon traders started observing complete strike. The citizens also staged a demonstration on the National Highway.
The protesters told the newsmen that the Hesco officials were installing crystal meters wherever they liked. They said that the new meters showed more than the actual power consumed.
WAR AGAINST DACOITS: The IG police, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah declared to wage a war against dacoits and terrorists in the province.
He was speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday.
The AIG, Sukkur Range, Nayyar Hasnain Zaidi, the DIG operations, Syed Mushtaq Hussain Shah, and the DPO, Khairpur, Abdul Khaliq Shaikh, were also present on the occasion.
The IG said that various religious sects were involved in the terrorism while dacoit gangs were active in interior Sindh.
He said that operation clean-up had started under a new strategy against negative elements and terrorism to make Karachi a city of peace.
He said that for the welfare of the police, a Police Welfare Trust had been established for which the federal and provincial governments had allotted Rs20 million each.
He said that the Sindh police had been given Rs200 million out of the Rs450 million which had been announced by President Pervez Musharraf for the Sindh police.
TWO SHOT DEAD: Two people including a woman were shot dead in the Gad Sharif village on late Tuesday night.
A villager, Mohammed Bachal Sehto, who was accompanied by his uncle, shot dead his sister, Ms Zareena, and his brother-in-law, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, on the pretext of Karo-kari. Later, they surrendered to the Ranipur police.
