Taxi driver shot dead by rivals

GUJRAT, July 3: A taxi cab driver was shot dead on Tuesday night by his four rivals to settle old score near Warraichan Wala, Dinga.

Ghulam Sarwar along with his uncle Adalat Khan and two other persons had left for Islamabad airport by his taxi (STB-6425). He had hardly gone some kilometres when three accused Babar, Amjad, Riasat along with an accomplice intercepted them. The outlaws opened fire on Ghulam Rasool, killing him instantly and fled.

Dinga police have registered a case on the complaint of Adalat Khan.

FOUR GET DEATH: A local court on Wednesday handed down death sentence to four convicts and fined Rs100,000 each in a murder case.

According to the prosecution, convicts M. Khan, Akhtar, Intizar, Nisar along with their three accomplices had murdered Akram near Ramtlai Chowk on June 5, 2000.

The court declared the three absconding accused as proclaimed offenders.

PASSPORTS: Over 1,500 applicants could not get their passports due to the short supply of green books to the local passport office, it was learnt on Wednesday.

They have demanded the higher authorities concerned early provision of passport copies.

SUSPENDED: Gujrat SSP Nisar Saroyia on Wednesday suspended from service moharrar Qaiser Topa and naib moharrar Raja Hanif of the City police station, Lalamusa.

The action was taken for their misbehaviour with the general public.
