Published July 4, 2002

KARACHI, July 3: A spokesman for the Karachi University has said that an organized group of ghost employees among the teachers and non-teaching staff had been unearthed. After proper enquiry some of the ghost employees have been removed from services, the spokesman added.

“The persons in question had gone out of the country on study leave, but did not come back. They drew salaries from the university and enjoyed other benefits, while on the other hand no report pertaining to their academic progress or activities abroad was received.”

Some of the KU employees were alleged of doing double jobs. The university will save around Rs3 million by removing the ghost employees, whose number is likely to rise to 35.
