Efforts on to simplify tax laws

KARACHI, July 3: Member CBR (audit) Syed Perwaiz Amjad has urged the business community to get themselves registered in the Self-Assessment Scheme as it is a step forward to simplify the tax laws.

In a meeting with the Pakistan Cloth Merchants’ Association (PCMA) members, he said the government was making all out efforts to simplify tax laws, bringing maximum number of people under the tax net.

The meeting, which was chaired by PCMA chairman Abid Chinoy, was largely attended by the business community.

Amjad said that SAS had been made effective from July 1, 2002. He informed the members that 317 people were registered under DTRE campaign and their audit would be conducted next year. He also said that sales tax rules were being framed in a way that the refund was made within 10 days.

The PCMA chairman apprised the member CBR of numerous problems being faced by the members of the association.
