LAHORE, July 1: The District Advisory Committee on Monday decided to constitute six town taxation committees to formulate recommendations for evolving a uniform district local government taxation system applicable at the district, town and union council level.
It was also decided to constitute a committee comprising representatives of the city district government, six town administrations and 150 union councils to auction the contracts for the collection of taxes. The taxes thus collected will be distributed among the CDG, six towns and 250 UCs according to a mutually-agreed formula.
It was also decided that the towns would not award contracts for the recovery of parking or ‘adda’ fees, and these would continue to be received by the city district government. The towns were, however, allowed to receive one per cent of the income of the tickets of recreational parks within their jurisdiction.
District Nazim Mian Amer and the committee chairman told the members that the meeting had been convened in the light of the unanimous decision of the Lahore district council that the tax collection should be centralized in the district. All the taxes should be collected at the district level and distributed among the district, towns and union councils according to a mutually-agreed formula.
The meeting was attended by District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir, five of the six town Nazimeen Aftab Asghar Dar, Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan, Maj Rafiq Hasrat (retired), Ashiq Dayal and Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, four of the six Naib Nazimeen Mian Muhammad Usman, Mian Javed Ali, Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail and Sheikh Muhammad Idrees, the executive district officer (Revenue) and district officer Tariq Mahmud. Allama Iqbal Town Nazim Sardar Adil Omar abstained.
The committee was informed that the Parks and Horticulture Authority had transferred all its toilets to the city district government which planned to build the public conveniences of a uniform design in the provincial metropolis.
