ISLAMABAD, June 30: Relief assistance, comprising tents, blankets and medicines, was dispatched to Iran for earthquake victims here on Sunday.

Cabinet Secretary Javed Masud handed over the relief goods to Charge d’ Affairs of Iranian embassy Raza Allaei in a formal ceremony at Chaklala Airbase.

Soon after the ceremony, a C-130 left for Iran carrying relief items comprising 3,000 blankets and over three million tents and medicines.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf had conveyed his grief to the Iranian president at the devastation and loss of human life caused by the earthquake in the northern and western parts of Iran.

APP ADDS: Receiving the relief goods, Reza Allaei said this assistance would further promote bilateral relations between the two countries.

He said although it was a very sad moment to receive such relief goods, this kind of gesture from Pakistan was a good thing.

Mr Allaei said the earthquake rendered 50,000 people homeless, 230 lost their lives and 1,300 were injured.

He said Iran required medicines and blankets and other important daily use items for the victims of earthquake.
