GUJRANWALA, June 30: The district police authorities dismissed 60 policemen and 15 others were retired compulsorily on the charges of corruption and inefficiency during the last six months.
This was revealed by SSP Muhammad Aslam Tarin during a monthly crime meeting held here on Sunday.
He said that about a dozen policemen were demoted while the service of one to two years of 210 officials were forfeited. Besides, he said, the annual increment of 90 officials were stopped and 756 officials were fined.
The SSP warned police officials to look up their efficiency.
RESENTMENT: Scores of candidates holding certificates of PTC, CT, OT and Arts and Craft voiced their anguish over the condition of graduation for teachers.
At a meeting held here on Sunday, the participants said the graduation condition had deprived them of employment opportunities in educational institutions.
They proposed that the graduation condition should only be fixed for English teachers and subject specialists in higher secondary schools. While candidates of PTC, CT, OT and arts and craft be allowed to apply for teaching jobs at elementary schools.
They threatened that they would set their certificates on fire if the government did not withdraw the decision.
Meanwhile, teachers of elementary schools (boys and girls) of Naushera Virkan expressed their resentment on the non-payment of salaries for the last three months.
They said since the transfer of the deputy district education officer, salaries were not being paid to them.
FIVE KILLED: Five people, including a minor boy, were killed while two dozen others sustained injuries in road mishaps in and around the city here on Sunday.
Muhammad Maqbool (5) of Ghumanwala village was crossing the Sheikhupura Road when a speeding coaster hit him, killing him instantly.
Tetley police have registered a case against the absconding crew and are investigating.
Manzoor Ahmad of Kamoke was knocked down and killed by a speeding bus. He was on his way to the vegetable market along the road.
Sultan Ahmad of the Hafizabad Road died instantly while about two dozen passengers of a Hafizabad-bound bus sustained injuries when it rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley near Philoki village. The injured were rushed to the DHQ Hospital, Qila Dedar Singh, in critical condition.
Bashir Ahmad of Baghbanpura was run over by a speeding truck near the Sheikhupura Morr Road. He died on the spot. He was crossing the road.
The passers-by caught hold of the absconding driver and handed him over to police.
Mansoor Ahmad of Satellite Town was crushed to death by a speeding pick-up on the Sialkot Road while he was on his way home from a market. He sustained critical injuries and died on the way to the local DHQ Hospital.
SIX CAUGHT: At least six landlords were caught red-handed on Sunday by joint raiding teams of the Irrigation and police for stealing canal water in Tetley village.
Acting on a tip-off that some landlords were stealing canal water through pipes, teams conducted raids and arrested them.
A case has been registered against them.
