One injured in Indian shelling

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, June 28: A man was injured as Indian troops shelled a village in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, breaking a considerable lull along the Line of Control, police said.

Indian troops lobbed at least five mortar shells in Bandala village in Samahni sector, in the southernmost Bhimbher district at 8.15pm, injuring one Akhtar Hussain, 28, son of Mohammad Hussain.

Thousands of people have fled from their homes in forward locations in Samahni sector due to intense Indian shelling since mid-May, which has caused much destruction and casualties.

According to officials, the area was “generally calm” since June 15, when a teenage boy was killed in sporadic fire.

Earlier, officials said Indian troops also targeted for one-and-a-half hour some villages in Forward Kahuta sector in the southern Bagh district with small and heavy arms. But, no casualty was reported from there, they said.

Last casualties along the LoC were reported on June 22, when two boys were injured in the town of Athmuqam in Neelum valley
