Dr Haroon topples holder Waqar

KARACHI, June 26: Three major upsets were recorded in the third round of Sindh Chess Championship here at Karachi Chess Academy Tuesday night.

The round’s biggest shock was Dr.Haroon who humbled defending champion Master Waqar after four-hour marathon while, NM Haseeb Ahmed went down to Khalid Zafar, a veteran player of Hyderabad. Haseeb in the start of the middle game failed to save his threatened Queen and he paid the penalty for serious blunder.

In another surprise unknown Dawood outclassed NM Salman Farooqi of Hyderabad.

FIDE Master Omer Khan downed Ashfaq Khan in another shock of the day. Omer, who was making a comeback after lapse of two years, played a totally committed game to outwit his opponent.
