Tribesman, child killed in revenge attack

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, June 26: A group of tribesmen raided agricultural lands near Ubaro and shot dead two of their rival Panhwar tribesmen in the wee hours of Wednesday. Three other members of the tribe were injured.

The Panhwars blamed Galato tribe for the attack and blocked the National Highway for several hours demanding arrest of the culprits.

The deceased were identified as Sher Mohammad (25) and a three-year-old boy, Zulfiqar. Those injured were Qadir Bukhsh, Rajab Ali and Ms Nazeeran.

Soon after the attack, hundreds of Panhwars gathered in the area and marched towards the Ubaro section of National Highway carrying bodies of the victims.

They placed the bodies in the middle of the road blocking the highway.

Senior police officials, Nazim of the local Union Council and several PML(N) and PPP leaders rushed to the scene and held negotiations with the protesters.

The police officials assured them that the culprits would be arrested within 48 hours. The protesters lifted the blockade later.

Police sources claimed that there had been a clash between the Panhwar and Galato tribesmen over a quarrel between children on the previous day. One person, Salar Galato, was injured in the clash and taken to a hospital in Rahimyar Khan.

They said that the Wednesday’s attack coincided with the clash as Salar Galato succumbed to his injuries late in the night.

The police further said that a 10-member group of Galato tribesmen attacked the Panhwars in revenge.

No arrests were reported till late Wednesday and tension ran high in the troubled area.
