PESHAWAR, June 26: The Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), an alliance of religious parties, extended its setup to the NWFP and elected Qazi Abdul Latif its provincial chief here on Wednesday.

The alliance’s executive council meeting held at Al-Markaz-i-Islami with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islami chief and bloc’s central leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the chair. Liaqat Baloch and Hafiz Hussain Ahmad also attended the meeting.

A press release says the executive council elected Qazi Abdul Latif as president of Frontier MMA; Professor Mohammad Ibrahim, Maulana Abdul Salam Salfi, Abdul Zahir Rizvi and Allama Ramzan Touqir as vice-presidents; Maulana Gul Naseeb as general secretary; Sirajul Haq and Advocate Owais Qadri as deputy general-secretaries; Mufti Kafiatullah as secretary finance and Fazl Rehman Madni as secretary information.

The council also decided to form bodies in all districts of the province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) in July.

The body, through a unanimous resolution, rejected the proposed Madaris Ordinance, and demanded of the provincial government to reconstruct the demolished mosque in Peshawar Central Jail.
