HYDERABAD, June 26: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), at a meeting held here on Tuesday, deplored that the federal finance minister, while announcing the budget, ignored the recommendations of the pay commission.
The meeting pointed out that in the last year’s budget it was promised that in the light of the recommendations of the pay commission the house rent and other allowances of the teaching community would be increased.
It, however, observed that instead of increasing the allowances, even the existing allowances had been brought under the income tax net.
The SPLA leaders termed this a great injustice with teachers and said that in the provincial budget, no steps had been taken for the welfare of the teachers and they had not been given even those facilities which were available to the teachers of other provinces.
The meeting regretted that the Sindh education department had not yet decided the move-over cases of 176 teachers from grade 19 to 20, 58 cases from grade 18 to 19 and 372 cases of promotion from grade 17 to 18. Similarly, 183 promotion cases of college teachers from grade 18 to 19 were also pending.
The meeting said this had created unrest among 7,000 college teachers of the province and demanded of the Sindh governor and other officials concerned to resolve the genuine problems of the teachers before July 31.
It further demanded that separate EDO (education) should be appointed for colleges in each district.
Prof Liaquat Aziz presided over the meeting.
SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), here on Tuesday announced the names of eligible candidates who were interviewed by the commission for the posts of librarian, BPS 16/17, in the education department.
The SPSC found fit 24 male and ten female candidates for BPS 17 and two males for BPS 16 and recommended their names to the government for appointment against the posts.
The Commission also announced the names of eligible candidates for various posts in education and food departments, and found eleven candidates fit and recommended their names against the posts.
SAU: The Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, has notified that the registration date for the first term students of the calendar year 2001, whose results have not been not declared due to some reasons, have been extended up to June 29 with usual fee and up to July 6 with a late fee of Rs100.
