King Zahir’s wife dies in Rome

ROME, June 26: Homaira Shah, the wife of Mohammad Zahir Shah, former king of Afghanistan, died in Rome on Wednesday, a hospital official said.

“Her heart stopped earlier today,” an official of the Ars Medica clinic in Rome said.

“She came out of intensive care last night after a heavy fever passed, but earlier today she died,” Homaira Wali, granddaughter of the former queen, told Italy’s ANSA news agency.
