Multan Saddar TC surplus budget

MULTAN, June 24: The Saddar tehsil council on Monday presented a surplus budget of Rs1.11 million for the financial year 2002-2003.

Tehsil Nazim Ahmad Mujtaba Gilani presented the fiscal statement before the house.

The revenue collection has been estimated as Rs38.17 million against the expected expenditures of Rs37.06 million during the fiscal. About 57.20 per cent of the expenditures will be spent on development projects, 33.57 per cent on salaries and 9.23 per cent on miscellaneous heads.

Rs21.1 million have been allocated to carry out various schemes in the jurisdiction of Saddar tehsil administration, while the budgetary allocation under various other heads is: salaries Rs12.44 million; contingency expenses Rs2.3 million; charged expenses Rs0.93 million; and unexpected expenses Rs0.1 million.

All the union councils which come under the Saddar tehsil limits will be given Rs0.4 million each for development projects in their respective areas. Besides, the council has earmarked Rs1.08 million for women’s welfare.

The house turned down the proposal to increase property transfer tax by one per cent. It also rejected the proposal to increase levy on ice factories, and approved reduction in tax on orchards from Rs150 per acre to Rs50 per acre.

The council exempted private educational institutions, academies, clay pottery, tandoor, auto workshops and sewing machine repair centres from all taxes. Taxes on explosive items and pure food items have been enlisted among the miscellaneous taxes.

Tax on textile mills has been raised from Rs10,000 to Rs30,000, while for a weaving mills the local body tax will be Rs25,000. Oil and ghee mills, spinning mills and plywood factories have been brought under the local tax net with a levy of Rs25,000 per unit. A tax of Rs25,000 has been imposed on engineering and chemical industries, pesticides’ preparation, Rs10,000 on dispatch box manufacturing, factories manufacturing iron wires and soap factories, Rs5,000 on lubricant manufacturing, hosiery, fabrics, embroidery, towels, woollen mills, scales, packaging industry and glue factories.

Likewise, the council has also levied tax ranging from Rs150 to Rs3,000 on a number of new items which earlier were not in the tax net.

RESULTS: The Bahauddin Zakariya University declared the results of BSc chemical engineering (third professional), first annual examination, 2001, on Monday.

As many as 83 candidates took part in the examination. Of them, 14 were declared successful showing a pass percentage of 18.18.

Roll numbers of the successful candidates are 2, 3, 6, 8, 10, 21, 41, 54, 55, 60, 63, 68, 72 and 79.
