$26m for development

ISLAMABAD, June 24: The World Food Programme has allocated $26 million under the Poverty Reduction Strategy Programme in Pakistan, to initiate health and community development projects for girls in rural areas in the next two years.

According to a press release, the World Food Programme has also undertaken a similar programme for Afghanistan which started in April this year to provide food aid to about 9.9 million people at a cost of $295 million until the end of 2002.

The programme is helping drought-affected communities and returning refugees as well as supporting the government in the reconstruction and rehabilitation activities.—APP
