THATTA, June 24: The much-sought-after irrigation water finally touched the distributaries of this district after more than four years prompted jubilations among thousands of people here on Monday.

People from all walks of life, mainly growers and fishermen community, thronged different sections of the Indus river banks to see the rare flow of water. Jubilations were witnessed in Ghorabari, Keti Bunder, Kharochhan, Shahi Bunder, Doulatpur, Ahmed Khan Ji Miyan and several other areas where drought-like situation prevailed for years.

Majority of those depending on agriculture or fishing, had been considering migration to urban areas as they were on the brink of starvation. They heaved a sigh of relief when water passed through their areas.

Cheering crowds, after travelling from far-flung areas, danced on the streets after having glimpses of strong currents which created a ray of hope among them for a better produce in the years to come.

PICNICKERS: A police team posted at Keenjhar Lake, on Sunday, rescued four of five picnickers from drowning.

The picnickers, hailing from Karachi, were shouting for help which drew the attention of the police.

Police divers managed to rescue four persons but Farhan Haider Rizvi, a resident of

Latif Nagar, North Karachi, drowned.
