Team for world event named

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 23: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Sunday named a team of four for this August’s World Junior Championship in Chennai, India.

Khayal Mohammad, Safeer Khan, Arshad Iqbal Burki and Majid Khan were selected in that order following five days of trials held at the Pakistan Sports Complex. Imran Mohib was chosen as a reserve player and will not travel with the team to India.

The selected players will continue to train under coach Rehmat Khan.

The PSF had requested the World Squash Federation (WSF) in May to move the August 13 to 24 championship out of India to some other venue in Asia because it felt its players could be at risk playing in that country.

The PSF was prompted to put in such a request because of standoff between India and Pakistan as both countries amassed troops on their borders.

However, with tensions now having subsided, there are indications that the event might not be shifted after all but could be rescheduled. The WSF is to make an announcement in this regard on June 30.
