KIRYAT SHEMONA (Israel), June 23: Two anti-aircraft shells fired by Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon hit a house in an Israeli border village on Sunday, but no one was hurt, Israeli security officials said.

Lebanese residents and security sources said the fire was directed at Israeli jets that broke the sound barrier over Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley and carried out mock raids over southern towns and villages on Sunday.

The anti-aircraft shells slammed into a house in the Israeli village of Kfar Yuval, about a kilometre from the Israeli-Lebanese border, but did not explode, Israeli security officials said. The house was damaged.

Despite UN criticism, Israeli planes have regularly violated Lebanese airspace since Israel’s withdrew from southern Lebanon in May 2000, drawing fire from Hezbollah guerrillas and occasionally the Lebanese army. —Reuters
