Khayal humbles Safeer

ISLAMABAD, June 22: Punjab’s Khayal Mohammad beat Safeer Khan of PAF 3-0 Saturday in the morning session of the trials being held for selection of the Pakistan team for the forthcoming World Junior Championship.

Khayal who was given a walkover against PAF’s Farhan Mahboob on Friday, scored a 9-7, 10-8, 9-0 win over his rival.

The team for the championship to be hosted by the Indian city of Chennai in August is to be named Sunday.

Results (morning session): Majid Khan (CAA) bt Yasir Butt 9-7, 9- 6, 9-0, Khayal Mohammad (Punjab) bt Safeer Khan (PAF) 9-7, 10-8, 9-0, Saeed Hassan (Punjab) walkover against Shahnawaz (Punjab), Farhan Mahboob (PAF) bye, Imran Mohib bt Arshad Iqbal Burki 9-10, 9-1, 9-6, 9-5.

Evening session-Friday: Khayal Mohammad (Punjab) walkover against Farhan Mahboob, Arshad Iqbal Burki (NWFP) bt Majid Khan (CAA) 9- 2, 5-9, 9-3, 8-10, 9-7, Imran Mohib (NWFP) bt Saeed Hassan (Punjab) 9-6, 9-6, 7-9, 1-9, 9-0, Yasir Butt (Punjab) walkover against Shahnawaz (Punjab), Safeer Khan (PAF) bye.
