Vehari councillors protest colleague’s arrest

By Our Correspondent

VEHARI, June 22: Scores of supporters of the opposition on Saturday protested in Burewala over the arrest of their colleague Dr Nazir Ahmad.

Dr Nazir was arrested on Friday for alleged misbehaviour with Naib Nazim Syed Sajid Shah and police sent him on Saturday to Multan jail for judicial remand.

Supporters of the opposition gathered outside the district council hall to condemn arrest of the member.

Speaking on the occasion, PML-N Vice President Chaudhry Zahid Anwar and other members termed the arrest of their colleague illegal.

They said they would boycott the district council budget meeting to be held in June.

They threatened they would continue protest till the release of Dr Nazir and acceptance of their demands.
