17 women among 107 tenants booked

By Our Correspondent

OKARA, June 22: Saddar police claimed to have booked 107 tenants, including 17 women, of local military farms for creating rumpus for the release of 27 detainees.

Dawn learnt on Saturday tension escalated on the farms as police widened siege. Punjab SSP Rana Muhammad Aslam reached Okara and monitored deployment in Okara and Renala Khurd.

The police nominated 107 people and registered two cases against them for chanting slogans against the government and for damaging state property.

Meanwhile, Anjuman-i-Mazareen office-bearers vowed to continue their struggle for legal demands.

DISCONNECTED: Wapda officials disconnected on Saturday power supply to Deepalpur Degree College for non-payment of dues of Rs180,000.

Students of FA and FSc taking practical examination reportedly faced a great deal of difficulty.

College Principal Prof Arshad Ali Mir told this correspondent the administration had been paying electricity bills regularly for the last four years. He feared the disconnection might be for some old dues.
