SARGODHA, June 21: The June 27 budget session of the district council will be a tough time for the Nazim as majority of members hailing from Bhalwal tehsil headed by Mian Abdul Qadeer have decided to oppose it.

Mian Qadeer told Dawn on Friday that the Nazim was just issuing statements and no development activity was going on in the district.

He alleged that the Nazim was patronizing corruption. He claimed that one of the close aides of the Nazim was involved in corruption but he (Nazim) paid no heed to the councillors’ complaints and demands to take action against him.

Mian Qadeer said a meeting of councillors was held the other day in which they decided to sit on opposition benches in the budget session.

Meanwhile, independent councillors led by Asif Khan assured Mian Qadeer of their support.

When contacted, a spokesman for the Nazim rejected the allegation. He also denied corruption charges levelled against the Nazim’s aide.

IDENTIFIED: Two alleged robbers who were killed in an accident on the canal bank while fleeing after the crime a couple of days ago were identified on Friday as Akhtar Abbas and Fayyaz Husain of Khushab district.

According to police, they were hardened criminals involved in many murder and dacoity incidents.

Their families were handed over their bodies which were buried here after declaring unidentified.

They had deprived a man of cash and his motorcycle near Jhal Chakian. Police were informed which started chasing them. They tried to escape through the canal bank where they rammed into a fallen tree and died on the spot.

ENCROACHMENT REMOVED: The Sargodha district and sessions judge foiled a bid to encroach state land by some local influentials and bulldozed about two dozen shops built on it.

The land along the sessions courts was reclaimed from the possession of encroachers a few years ago by the local municipal corporation.

A new group of encroachers surfaced and tried to transfer the land in their name through fraudulent means after constructing shops on it.

The judge directed to convert the land into a green belt and ordered an inquiry into matter.
