Rusedski marches into last eight
NOTTINGHAM (England), June 19: Greg Rusedski marched into the last eight of the $381,000 Samsung Open in Nottingham with a comprehensive 6-3 6-2 win over Romania’s Adrian Voinea Wednesday.
The Briton accepted a wildcard for the grasscourt event in order to prepare for next week’s Wimbledon championships where he is seeded 23.
Rusedski broke Voinea’s serve twice in the first set to put himself in the driving seat.
A loose service game at the start of the second set gave Voinea hope but Rusedski broke back two games later before cruising to victory.
Rusedski, who won the Nottingham title in 1997, now plays Magnus Larsson in the quarter-finals.
The Swede, a qualifying round lucky loser, beat Chile’s Nicolas Massu 7-6 6-4.
Nicolas Kiefer’s return to form was ended abruptly by British wildcard Arvind Parmar in the second round.
