ISLAMABAD, June 18: The affected people of Ghazi-Barotha Hydropower Project staged here on Tuesday a protest in front of the World Bank and Asian Development Bank against the indifferent attitude of the government towards their plight.
The protesters, majority of them included women and children, were also protesting against the high-handedness at the hands of Wapda, National Accountability Bureau, Regional Accountability Bureau and the arrest of their menfolk.
They were holding placards inscribed with slogans such as “stop injustices against the affectees of GBHP”, “The World Bank should fulfil its promises”, “Take your money back and give us back our land”, etc. The government agencies accused the affected people of getting excessive compensation against the provisions in the action plan which had been drawn up in 1997.
