DADU, June 17: A large number of small growers from various villages of Sehwan Sharif Taluka took out a protest demonstration against the closing of the Danister pumping station on Monday.
They marched through the roads of Sehwan town and stopped in front of the press club where they protested for an hour.
They were led by Ahmed Ali Shah and others.
Speaking to the demonstrators, Mr Shah said that due to the closing of the Danister pumping station the small growers of Arazi Bubak, Karampur, and other areas had been unable to cultivate cotton and paddy.
He said that even water for drinking was not available in the various areas of Sehwan Taluka.
The growers appealed to the provincial minister and the secretary, Irrigation, to direct local irrigation officials to open the Danister pumping station.
TWO WOMEN KIDNAPPED: Six armed men kidnapped two women from the Arazi village, Sehwan Taluka, on Monday over an old enmity.
The Sehwan police have registered an FIR under section 337-H2, 337 QDO, and 11/16 ZHO against the six men — Deedar, Ahmed, Ali Nawaz, Mashooq, Qadri, and Sheroo.
12 INJURED: At least 12 passengers were injured in an accident when two buses collided on the Indus Highway, near Lakhi Shah Sadar, on Monday.
DEMO: Workers of the Sindh National Front staged a demonstration outside the press club on Monday to protest against the construction of the greater Thal canal. Carrying banners and placards they raised slogans against its construction.
