Double by jockey Nasir
KARACHI, June 16: Jockey M. Nasir excelled once again in the saddle, when he rode home a brace of winners at the Summer Gymkhana Meeting Sunday at the Karachi Racecourse.
The young rider registered his first winner of the afternoon, when he piloted home Riffat Sultan’s dark bay horse Maha Sagar to victory in the fourth event, ending the pretensions of My Time and Wonder Thunder.
Nasir then went on to complete his splendid double, when he rode home Bold Commander to victory in the concluding event, chased all the way past the winning post by Najla and Baby Face.
Also sharing in the celebrations was veteran trainer Taj Mohammad, who saddled both the winners. In fact Taj with a little luck could have had three winners. But his charge the dark bay gelding Sur Sagar leading the field for most part of the race in the opening event, suddenly went terribly wide as riding boy N.A. Ghafoor could not handle his mount. The race was won by Miss Neutron ridden by Najam Iqbal, closely followed by Clever Cat and The Messenger. Sur Sagar finishing fourth ran on for another furlong and then fell to the ground, stone dead due to a severe heart attack.
Even Top gave Bashir Karim an armchair ride in the following event beating Sada-e-Lajpal by a street.
Nihal Pervaiz’s bay horse Wonderful Peace, the day’s best, with A. Rahim in the saddle, sprinted home to another fluent victory with Star Flash collaring Guarantee in the straight to grab the second place.
The bay colt Donatello, at last scored a victory for owner Yahya Shahid in the sixth event. After several disappointments in the past, the bay colt finally gave Yahya Shahid something to smile about, beating Tomahawk with plenty to spare. The winner was partnered once again by Tahseen Hussain.
