Anti-police protesters block highway

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, June 16: At least 100 persons blocked the National Highway near Ghotki on Sunday following the arrest and torture of a theft accused Ghulam Yameen by the Qadirpur police.

The protestors claimed that Ghulam Yameen was arrested by the police on false charges and the police tortured him at the police station.

The blockade ended after AIG, investigation, Sukkur range, Noor Mohammad Pechooho, who was passing from there, intervened and assured the protesters that an inquiry would be conducted in the matter.

He promised that if Ghulam Yameen was found arrested on false charges, not only he would be released but the SHO concerned would also be suspended.

According to the protesters no FIR was registered against Ghulam Yameen.

BODY: The dead body of a 40-year-old man stuffed in a gunny bag was found behind the district and session court in Jacobabad on Sunday.

The doctors said that torture marks were visible on the body and it seemed that the deceased was strangulated.

The body is kept in the Jacobabad hospital for identification but nobody has turned up to identify or claim it.
