KARACHI, June 13: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting scheduled for June 30 is likely to be cancelled after Indian cricket chief Jaghmohan Dalmiya refused to attend the summit in Lt Gen Tauqir Zia’s absence.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman is not travelling to Lord’s for the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings because of pressing professional commitments.

But Dalmiya, a close ally of Tauqir, has informed the ACC that he would prefer not attend the conference if the general was not there.

Officials said Dalmiya has informed the ACC that he would like to sit next to Tauqir “and any meeting without him would be no meeting.”

Tauqir is the chairman of the ACC while Dalmiya is the chief of the Asian Cricket Foundation (ACF).

When the ACC met at Sharjah during the home series against West Indies, Tauqir and Dalmiya took the International Cricket Council (ICC) by the horns on a various of issues, including the postponement of referees commission and the then suspended tour of New Zealand to Pakistan.

The June 30 meeting is significant in the background that change of guards will take place. On rota basis, the ACC chairmanship will go to Bangladesh while the council is also to appoint a paid chief executive who will sit in Kuala Lumpur where the secretariat is to be based.

Zakir Hussain Syed is the ACC secretary and could well be appointed as chief executive, though indications are that the new man would be from Bangladesh in the backdrop of past traditions.

The ACC meeting is to follow the ICC meetings starting at Lord’s from June 24.
