Special air wing set up to monitor Afghan border
QUETTA, June 13: The federal interior ministry has set up a special air wing for aerial supervision of Pakistan-Afghan border to check movement of Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters, official sources said here on Thursday.
Brig Mohammad Shafiq of army aviation would be in charge of the wing and the United States would provide special planes and helicopters for continuous supervision of the border.
“The special air wing has been set up for keeping an eye on the activities of Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters,” a senior officer of the border security force confirmed.
Sources said that special planes and helicopters would collect information from the border about the activities of Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters and would block their entry into Pakistan.
The US has requested the government to make all possible arrangements for arresting the fighters who would try to escape through the tribal areas.
