KARACHI, June 13: A division bench of the Sindh High Court reserved judgment on Thursday on the appeal of a former official of the Port Qasim Authority against his conviction on corruption charges by an accountability court, Karachi.
The bench, comprising Justice S. A. Sarwana and Justice Mujeebullah Siddiqui, earlier heard arguments by counsel of both parties.
Abdul Sattar Dero, a former member planning and development, Port Qasim Authority, had filed appeal against the order of the judge of the accountability court No 4 who awarded him seven years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs20 million.
Barrister Azizullah Shaikh contended that his client, Dero, was not a member of the committee for opening bids nor was he a member of the evaluation committee which prepared the report on the bids received. Dero was a member of a high-level committee which rejected Bhool Chand’s bid.—PPI
