TOBA TEK SINGH, June 10: Most participants in a workshop expressed satisfaction over the performance of political leaders while some held them responsible for the present crisis.

They were speaking at the workshop on ‘Democracy and human rights in Pakistan’ organized by the South Asia Partnership here on Monday.

National Workers Party’s Punjab president Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad said the capitalists and feudal lords had always exploited the poor after getting votes from them.

According to him, the introduction of socialist system could solve the problems facing the nation. “Only socialism ensures classless economic system.”

District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq said all political parties were patriotic and had the spirit to serve the people. He urged political workers to concentrate on the solution to the problems of the common man.

Millat Party’s national executive committee member Ghiasuddin Janbaz held Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto responsible for obstructing the political process in the country. He claimed that now people preferred to sell their votes to the candidates because they had seen that once elected the politicians did nothing for them except filling their own pockets.

PPP’s city president Zulfiqar Ali claimed that the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto enabled the masses to resist exploitation.

PML-N leader Amjad Javed apprehended that the October elections would be rigged like the referendum.

SAP’s Faisalabad coordinator Ameena Zaman said more workshop would be organized in the district.

SAP’s Lahore officials Siddiq Shakir and Masooma Saif also spoke on the occasion.
