KARACHI: Fun, food for special children

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 10: Handicapped children spent over three fun- filled hours at a roof-top restaurant, dancing and enjoying songs at a function organized for them on Monday.

The function was organized by noted social worker and artist, Jimmy Engineer, under the Fun and Food for Handicapped Children project.

Mr Engineer said that although many facilities were available to handicapped children in the developed countries, the special children here were not given any such facilities by society.

He said that he had been organizing such programmes so that such children could have fun, their issues could be highlighted and people would become aware of the miseries that these special people had to endure due to the indifferent attitude of the society.

He said that if everybody recognized their responsibility and fulfilled it, the life of special people here could become a lot easier. He said that the people should come forward and assist the institutions and organizations that were doing a noble job by trying to help handicapped children in whatever way they could.

S. Khalid Anwer of Mehran Hotel said that when Jimmy approached the hotel management to hold a function for special children, it was immediately agreed upon. He said that he was happy that the children were not only enjoying the music but also the view from the roof-top restaurant.

Stage and television artist Farzana Naz also sang many songs. Special children — Saleem Qureshi, Zainab Waheed, Sohail and others — from Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf and Blind — also sang many national and folk songs and enthralled their colleagues.

Fawzia Siddiqui of the Sada Welfare Foundation distributed goody bags among the children who had come from the Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf and Blind; Hope and Faith and Darul Sukoon.
