MIRPURKHAS, June 6: Many localities of Mirpurkhas have not received potable water for one week creating unrest among the residents.

Inhabitants of Garibabad, Toorabad, Dholanabad, Mohajir Colony, Hirabad, Adam Town, Balochabad, Ghousia Colony, Rajar Colony and Nawab Colony have reported that officials were paying no heed to their calls for the resumption of water supply which had made their lives miserable.

Water supply to other areas, including Lalchandabad and Pak Colony, has also been affected with residents seen travelling several miles every day in search of water for the last 15 days.

SILT: Water flow in Mithrao Canal has slowed down sharply due to swelling rocks of silt through its course.

The silt was growing fast at different sections of the course as the irrigation officials, in their bid to divert some quantity of water to the tail-enders, put up barricades at several regulators to control the water flow.

According to the officials, the practice was under way for the last four months and the tail-enders were getting water with normal pressure. However, the method creates problems of low pressure and salinity in other areas falling along the Mithrao Canal route.

MODEL SCHOOLS: Sindh education secretary Nazar Hussain Mahar has said that English medium model schools will be set up with the cooperation of private sector at union council level throughout the province.
