MUZAFFARABAD, June 5: At least one person was killed in Abasspur sector in southern district of Poonch Azad Kashmir and five others sustained injuries in indiscriminate Indian firing and shelling in different areas along the LoC.

According to sources Muhammad Sidique was killed in Abasspur sector and five others received injuries.

Two persons belong to Batal village of Tehsil Hajeerah and a resident of village Phala Nagar of Bagh District were injured and Khursheed Ahmed and Zameen Bibi were critically injured by heavy Indian shelling in Samahani sector.

DROP IN INTENSITY: Exchanges of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops continued along the Kashmir border on Wednesday but the intensity of the barrage has decreased, officials said.

Indian shelling was reported only from Samahni sector in the southernmost Bhimbher district, but the tense LoC was generally calm, they said.

ARMOURED VEHICLES: Indian and Pakistani troops traded fire from armoured vehicles across their border in Kashmir, the first such exchange in their tense frontier standoff.

“Pakistani troops started armoured fire in the R.S. Pora sector which was responded to in equal measure,” an Indian defence official told Reuters in Jammu, adding there were no reports of casualties.—Agencies
