RAWALPINDI, June 4: The Centre has directed the provinces to finalize their recommendations on various features of the Police Ordinance within a week, official source said on Tuesday.

The Police Ordinance 2002, has been sent by the National Reconstruction Bureau to all provinces seeking their recommendations on it.

The Ordinance was examined at a meeting, the sources said, and added that the government believed that it would fulfil the needs for a professional public-friendly and service-oriented police organization.

It has also been decided to provide funds to the Punjab government for enhancing the capacity of its police in terms of manpower, recruiting 1600 investigators through the Provincial Public Service Commission, provision of modern transport by giving one pickup and two motorcycles to each police station, the sources said.
