Six injured in tanker fire

By Our Correspondent

VEHARI, June 4: Six people were injured in an oil-tanker fire at the Pakistan State Oil depot here on Tuesday which raged for three hours, destroying three tankers and the PSO offices.

The fire started around 4pm on Tuesday. The tankers were being filled at the time from the depot supply line. When firefighters from Union Council 1 and the railway station failed to control it the residents of the adjoining areas took to streets. Some of them raised slogans against the administration. The flames were finally put down in three hours as a result of joint efforts by firefighters from Burewala, Mailsi and Vehari.

A PSO official told Dawn the damage was in excess of Rs10 million. The injured were admitted to the district headquarters hospital.

The district council had adopted a resolution in March deciding to shift the oil depot to a location outside the city.
