KARACHI: City council continues debate on water crisis


KARACHI, June 4: The city council on Tuesday continued its debate on the water crisis in the city to find a permanent solution to the persistent water shortage in Karachi, while two resolutions were approved pertaining to the internal matters of the city government.

Chief engineer Khalid Malik came to the council for the second day to listen to the complaints of elected representatives and answer their questions.

A number of members spoke during the session. The chief engineer KWSB said there were two solutions for the water shortage in Karachi. First the K-III project for the long term solution; second, the rectification of the existing system to control the water losses.

The house adopted two resolutions pertaining to the installation of CNG kits in petrol vehicles of the city government. The other resolution approved the revised budget of Rs4.5 million for the media management department in excess and surrender.

4.5 million rupees are being spent on different heads including subscription of publications, entertainment to guests and journalists, engagements , vehicle maintenance, purchase and maintenance of machinery for the city government printing press.—PPI
