LAKKI MARWAT, June 3: The Councillors Alliance, district Lakki Marwat, have demanded an investigation into the alleged corruption in the district government.
In a press conference held at the residence of Advocate Sheikh Mujahid Naseer, the alliance president doctor Mohammad Nawaz Khan said that the counsellors of district Lakki Marwat have been compelled by the step-motherly treatment of the district government to form an alliance as District Nazim was playing in the hands of some elements who were making it difficult for the district governments to function.
Other elected representatives, senior vice-president Aslam Khan, vice-president Abdul Majid, vice-president second doctor Ayub Khan, legal advisor Sheikh Mujahid Naseer Khan advocate, and press secretary Subh Sadiq advocate, were also present on the occasion.
At the joint news conference their president Mohammad Nawaz Khan further said that the development projects of their respective union councils were changed in connivance with the District Nazim and those elements who lost in the local government elections.
They demanded that projects of the present Annual Developmental Projects (ADP) be awarded to the elected representatives in the presence of District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan, other Nazims and counsellors, in the district assembly hall.
They threatened to file a suit against the district government if their projects were changed or cancelled. They said they had been promised by the military government that they would have some powers, but nothing has happened. They also expressed uneasiness about the Rs360 million allocated for “rodkohi” (small rainy water dams in torrential rainy areas) and blamed the district government for giving contracts to their favourites.
