MIRPURKHAS, June 3: The patients admitted to the gynaecology ward, Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas, are forced to pay between Rs300 and Rs500 on various pretexts by the staff of the ward.

A survey revealed that most patients are compelled to be admitted at a private hospital for benefiting doctors instead of benefiting the government hospital.

A man, Mohammed Akbar, told this correspondent that his wife, Rukhsana, was admitted at the ward and was operated upon. He said that he paid Rs400 on various pretexts to the officials of the ward.

He alleged that the lady doctors and staff were not paying proper attention to the indoor patients as a result of which they were suffering great hardships.

Another man, Mohammed Jumman, Jhuddo town, said that his wife was admitted in the ward and he had paid Rs400 to the staff of the ward on the pretext of patients’ welfare society fund, anaesthesia fee, surgery fee, etc.

The DCO has asked the EDO (health), Dr Illahi Bux Soomro, to hold an inquiry into the complaints and submit report for necessary action.

MAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE: A peasant, Mir Hassan, tried to commit suicide by taking pesticide at the Makhan Samoon village on Sunday.

He was admitted to the Civil Hospital in a critical condition.

growers demand: The growers of Sanghar, Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar districts could not get any benefit of the relief package announced by President Gen Pervez Musharraf in his public meeting in Mirpurkhas during the referendum campaign.

It may be mentioned here that President Musharraf had announced a relief package for those small growers of the calamity-affected areas of Sindh who had acquired a loan upto Rs100,000.

The federal and provincial governments have not yet declared any area of Sindh as calamity-hit area although the last date of the package is June 30.

It may be recalled that there had been acute shortage of water in the districts since the last few years.
