Sugar output


KARACHI, June 3: The sugar production in the country is estimated at more than 3.22 million tons till May 15, 2002.

According to the fortnight report of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, the industry could sell only 1.525 million tons of sugar and accumulated a stock of more than 1.694 million tons.

It said that out of total production, Punjab produced more than 2.154 million tons, Sindh 958,969 tons and NWFP 106,480 tons.

Mills crushed more than 36.802 million tons of sugarcane during the period. Sugar production from cane was estimated at 3.203 million tons while from raw sugar at 15,063 tons and 2,467 tons from sugar beet.—APP
