KOHAT, June 2: Fifty-three local offices of district Zakat committee have disbursed over Rs25 million during the current fiscal. The destitute including students, women working in various vocational institutes and the sick were among the recepients of the amount.
Zakat officer of the district, Qadir Khan Khattak, told newsmen here on Sunday that the amount distributed during 2001-02 included Rs9,551,540 monthly expenditure allowance for women, Rs2.8 million for school and college students, Rs1.8 million dowry fund, Rs1.4 million for medicines, Rs0.695 million for house building and Rs8.756 million for business purposes under the rehabilitation programme.
He stated that the poor students of various vocational institutes would also get monthly stipends from the Zakat fund in future so as to continue their studies without financial restraints.
Zakat chairman of the district, Omer Baksh Awan, appreciated the role of the local
chairmen, social welfare officer, Shazia Khattak and philanthropists for the judicious distribution of funds among the poor.
He expressed the hope that the staff of district Zakat fund would continue their efforts to maintain transparency in this humanitarian task.
