HYDERABAD, May 31: The AIG of Hyderabad region police during surprise visits to the Cantonment, Market and Tando Yousuf police stations here on Thursday released a few illegal detainees and suspended or transferred police officials responsible immediately.
The freed people had been detained at the police stations without any entry of their arrests in the police record.
Taking notice of this illegal act, the additional inspector-general of police, Abdul Rauf Yousufzai, warned that such an attitude would not be tolerated and the guilty officers would be sent home.
During his surprise visit, he was told that recently 15 police constables on duty at Tilak Charhi in connection with a mourning procession were not provided food. The constables were given Rs50 each from official fund.
UTP’S DEATH: Additional police surgeon of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Dr Ghulam Mustafa Yusufani, has confirmed torture caused the death of the UTP Mehmood Khoso, who died in a Hyderabad Central Jail on March 15, reports Our Correspondent.
After going through the pathological and chemical examination report of the deceased UTP, the police surgeon presented his final opinion to District and Session Judge Hyderabad, Parkash Lal M. Ambwani, here on Thursday
The report said: “Pattern and distribution of injuries is suggestive of torture whereas the cause of death is cumulative effects of all soft tissue injuries on his (Khoso’s) person, leading to acute neurogenic cardiovascular failure”.
In his testimony he told the court that there were 11 marks of injuries on the body of the UTP.
The DJ fixed the matter for June 6 for further consideration of facts in the light of fresh medical report.
The inquiry into the UTP’s death was referred to the Hyderabad DJ by Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Mr Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad.
Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali on April 18 had ordered registration of an FIR against superintendent of Hyderabad Central Jail, Malik Mohammad Altaf Awan, Deputy Superintendent, Aijaz Hyder, assistant jailer, Aurangzeb and other jail officials, on a constitutional petition filed by Ghulam Rasool Khoso.
