MIRPURKHAS, May 30: The supervisor of the Achale Saraf Company was killed and 12 other employees including saleswomen were seriously injured in an accident at the Wali Mohammed Shah village, near Digri town, on Wednesday night.
The employees of the Achale Saraf Company were headed for Mirpurkhas from Digri town in a van (PE-1144). The van collided with a tree as a result of which the supervisor of the company, Javed Masih (35), was killed on the spot and 12 people including female staff were seriously injured.
The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.
GROWERS: Thousands of growers under the banner of the Farmers Organization Council, led by its chairman, Syed Ali Gohar Shah, Naib Nazim (Balochabad) Imtiaz Ali Panhwar, Zulfiqar Ali Junejo, and the Nazim Union Council Mirpur (old), M. Yameen Narejo, took out a rally on Thursday to protest against the artificial shortage of water created by the irrigation department. They were demanding the judicious distribution of water.
Addressing the protesters, the chairman, Farmers Organization Council, Syed Ali Gohar Shah alleged that the engineers had created artificial shortage of water in the command area of the Nara Canal as they were selling the water to influential landlords.
He lamented that as a result of this the growers were facing a lot of problems.
Mr Panhwar said that the rotation programme of the irrigation department had proved to be ineffective.
Later, the protesters submitted their charter of demands at the office of the director, Nara Canal area water board, in the absence of the director.
UC NAZIM DISQUALIFIED: The judge of the election tribunal and district and sessions judge, Mithi, M. Iqbal Arain has disqualified M. Shafi Sonara, Nazim union council No.3, Mirpurkhas city, when his matriculation certificate was found to be fake.
The Naib Nazim, Niaz Ahmed Baloch also stood disqualified on the same grounds.
According to the judgment, the running pair of the union council No3 Mirpurkhas city, Malik Liaquat as Nazim and M. Yousuf alias Arshad as Naib Nazim, were declared qualified for the seats.
The candidate for Nazim, Malik Liaquat Ali, had filed a suit in the election tribunal stating that the certificate produced by the elected Nazim, M. Shafi, was fake.
