FAISALABAD, May 30: The opposition in the tehsil municipal administration (city) has levelled allegations of corruption and misuse of powers against the ruling group.

Opposition leader Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf presented a charge-sheet against the ruling group, alleging that it had failed to run its affairs in consonance with the devolution plan.

He alleged that corruption, nepotism and maladministration had become order of the day in the TMA while the citizens were being deprived of all basic civic amenities. He also accused the ruling group of withdrawing sanitary workers from the areas of opposition councillors.

The opposition leader said all the city roads had become unmotorable because of ditches; heaps of garbage could be seen everywhere; and the streetlight system had also become inoperative owing to negligence of the officials concerned. Development works were being carried out only in the areas of the city Nazim and his “chums”, he claimed.

He alleged the ruling group was forcing opposition members to leave their group otherwise no funds would be released to them.

A number of other councillors/Naib Nazimeen also spoke on the occasion and levelled similar charges against the Nazim and his group.

Earlier, opposition members walked out in protest when they were not allowed to speak and not allotted separate seats. However, they ended the boycott on the assurance of the convenor that their demands would be fulfilled in the next meeting.

However, the meeting approved an agenda for allowing the management of Kohinoor Mills to develop “Kohinoor City”, a commercial-cum-residential locality.

It may be noted that for the first time since the inception of the devolution plan, the opposition councillors have formally demonstrated their strength in the council meeting and vowed to oppose the anti-citizen polices of the ruling group in the TMA.

SULLAGE: Sullage entered many houses in Chak Rajoka due to a breach in an open drain here on Wednesday night.

The drain water damaged household articles and some kutcha houses.

Wasa and TMC teams rushed to the spot and filled up the breach early on Thursday morning.
