Envoy stresses UN role

By Our Correspondent

UNITED NATIONS, May 29: Pakistan on Tuesday said that the “United Nations has a legal, moral and historical responsibility to promote a just and peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute and, more immediately, to prevent the recourse to logic of war in South Asia

This was stated by Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, when he presented his credentials to the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan on Tuesday afternoon at the UN Headquarters in New York according to a press release.

Akram said: “The situation in South Asia presents a challenge to the global quest for durable peace and equitable development and the Kashmir dispute once again has created a dangerous confrontation between two major UN member states.
